Lighting Photography

This photo features the face of the model but through the transparency of a red balloon. Creating a very interesting effect, I had to use macro photography in order to get close enough to capture a clear image of the face. As I used this method you can see how  the edges -specifically the hand holding the balloons- are blurred out so that the center is focused. I needed a lot of light in order to be able to see the face through the balloon as it's shown, so in order to do this I used two spotlights on either side of the blue screen to shine directly from both angles.

I love the way that the lights (used in the same position as the previous photo) create vertical lines through the balloons. This occurs due to twin spot lights shining from both the left and right side, meaning the edges of the three balloons are shining light with the reflection of the lights and the centers are dark. I took this photo before switching to macro mode in order to test a few different angles.

For this photo I directed the model to have a resigned look with a hint of sadness, so in order to portray this she looked away from the camera with downcast eyes as she holds the large gun against her own head. I chose this particular pose and prop as the model is wearing a camouflage jacket which adds to the illusion that the image shows to be of a soldier. In order to create an even darker, scarier theme I added a red filter that represents the idea of blood. This use of red lighting gives the image an overall horrifying theme that also shows a lot of sadness within the scary picture. I really love how the face is a lot lighter on the right side where are there are a lot of shadows being cast on the opposite side and on the hair. The gun is a lot darker and I created this effect to highlight the danger of the weapon and the innocence of the face it is pointed at.
