I really love the visual affects in this image and how they all work together to create an overall appealing photo that comes across as being very relaxing. The viewer's eye immediately travels from the top left corner to the opposite side. The curved lines of the cloud act as a relaxing path down to the boat, which is the main feature of the image. This curved and easy path does not strain or tire the eye and ensures is is enjoyable for the viewer to explore. The photo uses the 'rule of thirds' method, which means that the most important features of the image are highlighted by use of invisible (horizontal and vertical) lines. These lines have intersection points, where parts such as the sun and boat are highlighted, this creates an overall very effective layout. The perspective of this image has been taken from a slightly low angle, which makes the scene look grander to the viewer, however this is only a subconscious feeling. The photo almost has a frame quality to it added by the pebble stones at the bottom of the image. This creates a much heavier atmosphere that automatically pulls the eye down. I think the background scene of this photo is very well thought out as it keeps every part of the image interesting and yet at the same time it is not too overcrowded. If the boat had just a plain white background the photo as a whole would be very unappealing and dull to look at. The sun and colours of the sky especially create a blended together palette that creates wonderful lines for the eye to trace. These lines can specifically be found in the horizon and where the sea meets the shore, they add a lot more structure to the photo creating a fantastic layout and composition. |
